Hemp or industrial hemp is part of the cannabis sativa plant genus that’s known for its properties without any psychoactive effects. Hemp has taken center stage after the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill which legalized the substance. Since hemp contains CBD which is one of the many cannabinoids found in marijuana, it’s often assumed that it also contains the psychoactive effects of THC. Contrary to popular belief, while the names are often used interchangeably, THC is only present in marijuana, while hemp is THC free.
Cannabis has been cultivated since ancient times, but it wasn’t until recently that it was noticed that different types of cannabis plants have different properties. Through the process of selective breeding, two major groups of the cannabis plant were created. These two plants are known as marijuana and hemp.
Hemp offers users with a THC-free product without any of the mind-altering effects of marijuana.
Hemp has been grown in most parts of the world and is used for its strong fibers for the making of ropes and fabrics. Hemp also has useful medical properties as well as is used in the form of oils and tinctures.
What makes hemp unique is that it contains little or no amounts of THC, which is the psychoactive component that’s found in marijuana that’s responsible for resulting in the mind-altering effects of marijuana. On the other hand, hemp oil/CBD doesn’t contain any THC, and so doesn’t have any psychoactive effects on the user.
While the two plants may look quite similar, the molecular compounds of hemp makes it superior to marijuana since it doesn’t have anything in that affects the mind.
According to recently-passed laws in the US and other parts of the world, the recommended level of THC in any hemp oil/CBD product is 0.3%. While that’s the new legal limit for THC in hemp oil/CBD products, many people aren’t comfortable with using products that have any mind-altering effects, and that includes products containing THC.
This is where hemp oil/CBD has proven to be a viable alternative to the traditional products that have been available in the market up until now. Hemp offers users with a THC-free product without any of the mind-altering effects of marijuana, making it the preferred choice for many who don’t wish to use any products containing THC.
Since hemp is THC-free, users don’t have to worry about overdosing or experimenting with a higher dosage than the recommended 5mg or 500mg. Unlike other products, since there’s no THC present in hemp, using a higher dose is not problematic for the user.
